DAY 4
We move south from Città di Castello taking quiet roads before climbing through the ridges that separate the Tiber Valley from the Chiana Valley.  On the descent we will be hit by the beautiful scenery of the western corner of Lake Trasimeno and Cortona.  We will stop off in the beautiful piazza of Cortona for a coffee before going onwards across the Chiana Valley through the famous wine production territories of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.  Our home for the night is inside the beautiful hill top town of Montepulciano.

DAY 5
A tough day in the saddle as from Montepulciano we will hit a long sequence of hills, the famous and iconic Val d’Orcia,  Passing Pienza we will get to the river Orcia and begin our long climb across the Amiata Mountain, a dormant volcano whose side effects are still present in the form of hot springs all around the mountain. Passing through wheat fields and olive groves then onto the chestnut and beech tree forest of the Amiata then a gradual descent to the Upper Maremma, the ancient homeland of the Etruscans and hot springs of Saturnia.

DAY 6
Our final ride of the tour will take us away from the hills of the Upper Maremma to the plains of the Maremma, a vast farmland area once home of the Butteri (Italian cowboys) to Mount Argentario where a thin strip of sand with a quiet road under a canopy of pine trees connects the mainland to this once mountainous island of the Tyrrenian Sea where you can dip the front wheel of your bike on completion of this magnificent Italian Coast to Coast tour.
